This week Western Governors commended the Department of Energy’s (DOE) focus on implementation of a provision of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) directing development of regional clean hydrogen hubs. Governors urged DOE the to leverage the West’s ample resources as it implements new hydrogen infrastructure programs and funding opportunities. The letter of March 31, signed by WGA Chair, Idaho Gov. Brad Little, and WGA Vice-Chair, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, specifically highlighted the region’s balanced, diverse mix of energy resources; robust energy transport infrastructure; the presence of multiple national labs; and a high concentration of energy sector workers to support the development of multiple hydrogen hubs. “Western Governors stand ready to work in partnership with DOE to leverage the IIJA and support the development of hydrogen and other advanced energy technologies,” the letter read.
