Letter: WGA urges consultation with states as outlined in Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act of 2018

The Western Governors' Association (WGA) urges the Advisory Committee on Data for Evidence Building of the U.S. Department of Commerce to provide recommendations directing federal agencies to consult with state and local governments as outlined in the Foundations for Evidence-Based Policymaking Act of 2018. The outreach of Jan. 14, 2021, shared several recommendations, including to "engage with states and state officials as partners rather than as ordinary stakeholders" and to "develop and adopt clear and accountable processes to consult state and local governments on a government-to-government basis in the implementation of the Act." The letter signed by WGA Executive Director Jim Ogsbury concluded by reminding that consultation with states "will result in more effective, efficient, and resilient federal policy."
