Western Governors encourage the U.S. Forest Service and Department of the Interior to ensure that wildfire restoration receives the same priority as mitigation and suppression work. The Governors' outreach of Nov. 24, 2020, asserted that while "this is a long-term endeavor, it will reduce the reliance on suppression infrastructure ... and result in sustainable resilient ecosystems and safer communities." The letter signed by WGA Chair Oregon Gov. Kate Brown and Vice Chair Idaho Gov. Brad Little reminded that one goal of the Shared Stewardship Memorandum of Understanding signed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and WGA was to create a roadmap of assistance available to communities affected by wildfire.
