WGA submits policy recommendations to the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee for improving veteran health care services in remote areas

In correspondence with the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, the Western Governors’ Association (WGA) shared policy recommendations to improve health care services for veterans, particularly in remote areas. The letter of January 12, 2024, signed by WGA Executive Director Jack Waldorf, conveys Western Governors’ policy that encourages the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to create additional Community Care and Vet Centers, allow for more flexibility in choosing health care providers, and expand telehealth services in underserved areas. Western Governors’ policy also encourages VA to conduct an evaluation of the Veterans Transportation Services exam and implement improvements to the Highly Rural Transportation Grants Program to address transportation challenges faced by rural veterans.
