WGA submits policy recommendations to break down the barriers that communities face in accessing federal funds

In correspondence with the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, the Western Governors’ Association submitted policy recommendations to break down the barriers that communities face in accessing federal funds, including matching fund requirements and capacity constraints. The letter of May 17, signed by WGA Executive Director Jack Waldorf, specifically encouraged the committee to streamline grant funding processes, build grant management capacity within communities, and coordinate among federal agencies. “Western Governors recognize and support efforts at the federal and state level to coordinate the deployment of resources, leverage funding, and create one-stop application processes for rural customers [and] are interested in exploring strategies to expand those models to include more funders and further enhance coordination between agencies and between states and the federal government."
