WGA share recommendations for the 2023 Farm Bill with House Subcommittee on Conservation and Forestry

The House Agriculture Committee’s Subcommittee on Conservation and Forestry is focused on review of the conservation issues important to the upcoming 2023 Farm Bill. Western Governors recently shared perspectives on the region’s ecological challenges, federal voluntary conservation programs, and opportunities to promote cohesive cross-boundary land management efforts with the panel. The letter of Feb. 1, signed by WGA Executive Director Jim Ogsbury, outlined specific recommendations in WGA Policy Resolutions regarding compensatory mitigation, the Endangered Species Act, rangeland management and invasive species. “Following decades of work by staff and contractors, states have developed extensive science, expertise, and knowledge of species within their borders,” the letter read. “Western Governors support all reasonable proactive management efforts to conserve species and the ecosystems upon which they depend to sustain populations of diverse wildlife and habitats.” Read, download the letter to see the full list of policy recommendations.
