In correspondence with the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, the Western Governors’ Association (WGA) expressed appreciation for its hearing on the Wildland Fire Mitigation and Management Commission’s recent report to Congress, which included 148 policy recommendations for nearly every facet of the wildfire crisis. “Western Governors recognize that addressing the threat of uncharacteristic wildfire requires a holistic understanding of, and response to, the many complex factors that contribute to the lifecycle of wildland fire,” the letter of March 12, 2024, which was signed by WGA Executive Director Jack Waldorf, read. “The Governors appreciate the Committee’s commitment to examining the Commission’s recommendations and moving forward with reforms that will improve all aspects of the wildfire cycle, from pre-fire mitigation through post-fire recovery.” Read the full correspondence for additional details.
