WGA calls for the legal protection of Good Samaritans who clean up abandoned mine sites

In correspondence with the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, the Western Governors’ Association (WGA) submitted bipartisan policy recommendations in advance of the Committee’s consideration of H.R. 7779, The Good Samaritan Remediation of Abandoned Hardrock Mines Act. “Western Governors call for the legal protection of Good Samaritans who clean up abandoned mine sites and specifically support the type of pilot program created by this legislation,” read the September 17 letter, signed by WGA executive director Jack Waldorf.  The Committee approved the bipartisan bill, sponsored by Representatives Celeste Maloy (R-UT) and Mary Peltola (D-AK), by a voice vote during its markup. Read the full correspondence for further details.
