WGA call on the House to fund land management projects in partnership with the states

The Western Governors’ Association submitted testimony to the House Appropriations Committee’s Subcommittee on Interior, Environment and Related Agencies relating to Fiscal Year 2023 appropriations for Department of Interior agencies, the Department of Agriculture’s U.S. Forest Service and for the Environmental Protection Agency. The testimony of March 10, signed by WGA Executive Director Jim Ogsbury, emphasized the need for a robust state-federal relationship to properly manage public lands and highlighted several issues that would benefit from an expanded partnership.  Included among the issues raised: invasive species management, water infrastructure and fire mitigation. “These sovereign governments must have a close and productive working relationship to promote efficiency and maximize returns on taxpayer investments,” the testimony stated. “Western Governors urge the federal government to prioritize the funding of these important efforts.”  Read, download the letter for full remarks.
