WGA advocates for electric vehicle infrastructure as Department of Transportation develops strategic plan for research development and technology

The Western Governors’ Association shared policy recommendations with the U.S. Department of Transportation to aid in its development of a Research Development, and Technology Strategic Plan for fiscal years (FY) 2022–2026. The outreach of Jan 18, signed by WGA Executive Director Jim Ogsbury, specifically encouraged the department to review WGA’s Electric Vehicle (EV) Roadmap Initiative Special Report, which highlights various EV infrastructure issues that are unique to western states, including the common need to upgrade rural electric grid infrastructure to accommodate certain EV charging technologies. The letter also conveyed the Western Governors’ policy stances on issues of transportation infrastructure, aviation, and the need for better data-sharing capabilities between the states and the federal government to “inform evidence-based policymaking, improve service delivery, more effectively manage resources, improve regulatory enforcement, and more accurately measure program performance and effectiveness.” Read, download the letter.
