WGA urged the House of Representatives Committee on Oversight and Reform to clarify the federal government’s role in cybersecurity

Western Governors urged the House Committee on Oversight and Reform to clarify the roles and responsibilities of federal agencies in preventing, preparing for, and responding to cyberattacks ahead of the committee hearing to reform the Federal Information Security Modernization Act. The letter of Jan. 11, singed by WGA Executive Director Jim Ogsbury, outlined recommendations in the WGA’s Cybersecurity policy resolution, which calls for strong federal-state collaboration, the modernization of government computer systems, adequate funding for election security, and high-quality cybersecurity education and workforce development programs, among others. “The Governors are supportive of federal efforts to improve agency coordination and create a clear, whole-of-government approach to address cybersecurity challenges.” Read, download the letter.
