Western Governors urge FCC and NTIA to use state data in broadband deployment

Western Governors provided policy recommendations to the Federal Communications Commission and National Telecommunications and Information Administration regarding broadband deployment in underserved areas. The letter of Feb. 14, signed by WGA Chair Colorado Gov. Jared Polis and WGA Vice Chair Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon, highlighted gaps in the National Broadband Map and Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program and encouraged the agencies to include state data submitted after the data collection deadline. “The BEAD Program represents a historic opportunity to close the digital divide, and accurate mapping is essential to providing states with the correct levels of funding and guaranteeing that no community or household is left behind,” the letter read.
