In correspondence with leadership in the U.S. Senate, Western Governors submitted bipartisan policy recommendations related to the Fire Ready Nation Act of 2025. The letter of June 5, 2025, signed by New Mexico Governor and WGA Chair Michelle Lujan Grisham and Utah Governor and WGA Vice Chair Spencer Cox, communicated Western Governors’ collective policy as it relates to the Fire Ready Nation Act. “Western Governors would like to express their support for provisions in S. 306, the Fire Ready Nation Act of 2025, which was favorably reported by the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation on February 5,” reads the letter. The correspondence also encourages the Senate to establish “a clear and accountable process for government-to-government consultation” in implementing the bill, “as states and local and tribal governments are typically the first responders to wildfire events and would be the primary beneficiaries of the fire weather tools the legislation seeks to develop and deploy.” Read the correspondence in full for further details.
