Western Governors applaud the passage of the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, stand ready to support implementation

In correspondence with Congressional leadership, Western Governors emphasized the urgency of addressing the nation’s housing challenges through federal legislation. Housing shortages were the focus of the WGA initiative, Building Resilient and Affordable New Developments in the West (BRAND West), which generated recommendations for federal action to help remove barriers to development, reduce costs, and leverage new resources and authorities to enable all families to meet their housing needs. Many of these recommendations are reflected in both the House and Senate versions of H.R. 6644, the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, and would help accelerate housing development in our communities.  The same day the Western Governors’ correspondence was delivered, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 6644, paving the way for President Trump to sign the legislation into law.

“Western Governors stand ready to work with you to achieve these meaningful housing solutions for our shared constituents,” read the letter signed by WGA’s Chair, Utah Governor Spencer Cox, and WGA’s Vice Chair, Hawaiʻi Governor Josh Green.
