Letter: Senate’s Wildfire and Public Safety Act earns support of Western Governors

Western Governors support projects for forest restoration and wildfire resilience included in S. 4431, the Emergency Wildfire and Public Safety Act of 2020. Provisions in the Senate Act that reflect the Governors’ priorities to create fire-adapted communities in the West include: requiring the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) to conduct collaborative wildfire risk reduction projects in western states; launching a grant program to facilitate removal of biomass on USFS lands at high wildfire risk, and establishing a Prescribed Fire Center in the West to train individuals in activities relevant to the mitigation of wildfire risk. The letter of Oct. 20 to Senators Dianne Feinstein and Steve Daines was signed by WGA Chair Oregon Gov. Kate Brown and Vice Chair Idaho Gov. Brad Little. Read, download letter
