In correspondence with the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management, the Western Governors’ Association shared bipartisan policy recommendations for improving the efficacy of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) disaster assistance to save taxpayer money and expedite response and recovery efforts.  Recommendations include directing FEMA to allow grantees to utilize management costs across all open disasters, requiring FEMA to provide a determination on a disaster declaration request within 60 days from the request’s submission, and increasing emergency management performance grant funding to expand state and territorial capacity to provide technical assistance and expedite reimbursement for FEMA public assistance applicants.  Read the full correspondence for additional details.
