In response to a hearing of the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs on The State of Housing 2023, the Western Governors’ Association submitted policy recommendations to help increase the availability and affordability of housing. The letter of Feb. 13, signed by WGA Executive Director Jack Waldorf, highlighted the need to streamline or modify federal housing programs like the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit. “According to the 2020 U.S. Census, the region has experienced population growth of 9.2 percent from 2010 to 2020, the second highest rate nationally, with more than 78 million new residents,” the letter read. “This growth in the West has led to housing shortages in communities large and small.” Read, download the letter for more details.
