WGA submits FY 2020 testimony to House, Senate Appropriations on land management, nutrition assistance, rural economic development

The Western Governors’ Association submitted testimony on FY 2020 appropriations to the House and Senate Committees on Appropriations Subcommittees on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies.

The written testimony of WGA Executive Director Jim Ogsbury delivered on March 28, 2019 commented on a variety of topics, including land management, nutrition assistance, and economic development challenges in rural communities.

The testimony highlighted the importance of funding the work of the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), which "empowers private landowners to work with states and the federal government on large-scale management priorities across areas with different land ownerships."

WGA also advocated for adequate funding of the NRCS Snow Survey and Water Supply Forecasting program, which provide integral information for water supply management decisions in agricultural production, hydroelectric power generation, reservoir operations, recreation and economic development, and international treaties.
