WGA encourages enactment of Farm Bill provisions supporting forest and rangeland management

The Western Governors’ Association encourages the enactment of Farm Bill provisions that call for greater collaboration between the U.S. Forest Service and state and local agencies.

The WGA outreach highlights U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Sonny Perdue’s engagement with Western Governors at their 2018 Winter Meeting, during which he executed with WGA leadership a joint Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on shared stewardship.

“I look forward to implementation of several cross-boundary projects of regional concern through the MOU, and to the completion of additional agreements between the U.S. Department of Agriculture and states to address specific priority projects and management needs,” states the letter signed by WGA Executive Director Jim Ogsbury.

The March 20, 2019 letter to USDA Under Secretary for Natural Resources and Environment Jim Hubbard also identifies other WGA priorities, including Farm Bill provisions supporting forest and rangeland management in the West.
