The Western Governors’ Association shared policy on cooperative federalism in controlling, monitoring, and improving air quality with the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works Subcommittee on Clean Air and Nuclear Safety in advance of its hearing, “States’ Role in Protecting Air Quality: Principles of Cooperative Federalism.”
“The Clean Air Act establishes a regulatory structure for controlling, monitoring, and improving air quality through a system of cooperative federalism in which states and the Environmental Protection Agency work together as co‐regulators and partners in air quality management,” states the letter signed by WGA Executive Director James D. Ogsbury. “Western Governors value the cooperative federalism in air quality management and believe its application can and should be improved.”
The letter to Chair Mike Braun and Ranking Member Sheldon Whitehouse prior to the March 5, 2019 hearing includes WGA Policy Resolutions Air Quality and Methane Emissions Regulation and Building a Stronger State-Federal Relationship, as well as previous outreach from Western Governors.
