The Western Governors’ Association submitted Governors’ policy to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation urging Congress to reauthorize The Essential Air Service (EAS) Program and the Small Community Air Service Development Program (SCASDP). The letter of April 19, signed by WGA Executive Director Jack Waldorf, also encouraged Congress to consider measures that address challenges in rural air connectivity, including funding for infrastructure and service subsidies. “Air transportation is necessary to fulfill the needs of remote communities in the West,” the testimony read. “These programs help attract more businesses, workers, and visitors to these areas and increase access to important services.
