In correspondence with the House Financial Services’ Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance, the Western Governors’ Association (WGA) highlighted the need to reduce the administrative burden associated with federal housing programs and streamline operations to expedite affordable housing development. The letter of December 15, signed by WGA Executive Director Jack Waldorf, also expressed Western Governors’ support for manufactured and modular housing, acknowledging their vital role in providing attainable and accessible housing options, particularly in rural areas. “Inflation, increased material costs, and labor shortages are already constraining affordable housing development,” the letter read. “Western Governors urge the federal government to reduce the administrative burden associated with federal housing programs to better facilitate and expedite affordable housing development, using the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s (USDT) administration of the Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) Program as a model.” Read the full correspondence for additional details.
