The Western Governors' Association advocated for a greater partnership between states and the federal government in testimony to the House and Senate Committees on Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies.
The testimony documents submitted on April 17, 2018 and April 23, 2018 regarding fiscal year 2019 appropriations stated that the Governors are "eager to work with the Department of the Interior (DOI) to improve its efficiency and accountability through deliberate consideration of the anticipated effects of its proposed reorganization."
Among other issues, the testimony also recommended full funding of the Payment in Lieu of Taxes program and requested that DOI agencies be provided the resources and authority to implement inspection and decontamination of watercraft infested with quagga and zebra mussels in their jurisdiction.
“The promotion of greater partnership between states and the federal government is central to the mission of WGA,” said WGA Executive Director James D. Ogsbury in the testimony.
