In correspondence with Senator Gary Peters, Western Governors voiced their support for principles contained in his bipartisan bill, S. 1528, the Disaster Assistance Simplification Act, which would streamline the administration of federal disaster assistance programs by creating a unified disaster intake system. “Doing so,” read the letter of October 13, 2023, signed by WGA’s Chair, Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon, and WGA’s Vice Chair, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, “would not only expedite the provision of disaster assistance, but also reduce the burden of federal program application processes on individuals and communities affected by natural disasters.” Read the full letter for additional details.
