Western Governors commend the introduction of the American Minerals Security Act, a bill to improve access to domestic mineral resources to strengthen the economy and national security.

The outreach to U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski, Chairman of the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources and U.S. Senator Joe Manchin, Ranking Member of the Committee, emphasizes Western Governors’ support for measures to identify domestic critical mineral resources and address permitting delays.

“A robust domestic mineral supply is increasingly important due to growing U.S. demand and reliance on foreign sources,” states the June 4, 2019 letter signed by WGA Chair Hawaii Gov. David Ige and WGA Vice Chair North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum. “Western Governors support measures to identify domestic critical mineral resources and address permitting delays without reducing environmental or other protections.”
