Western Governors share bipartisan policy recommendations with EPA on visibility and haze management

In correspondence with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards, Western Governors submitted bipartisan policy recommendations in response to EPA’s Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking regarding Visibility Protection: Regional Haze State Plan Requirements Rule Revision. The March 5 letter, signed by Utah Governor and WGA Chair Spencer Cox and Hawaii Governor and WGA Vice Chair Josh Green, calls for streamlining the regulatory process for haze management. “Western Governors welcome EPA’s effort to improve the RHR for the third implementation period, especially with regard to planning requirements, contributory factors, agency guidance, deadline adjustment, and implementation assistance,” reads the letter. “States should have the maximum discretion to develop implementation and enforcement approaches within their jurisdiction without federal intervention.” Read the letter in full for further details
