In correspondence with U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, Western Governors shared bipartisan recommendations for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Review Council. The letter, signed on September 25 by WGA Chair, Utah Governor Spencer Cox, and WGA Vice Chair, Hawaii Governor Josh Green, communicates a range of bipartisan recommendations to achieve improvements of FEMA’s policies and programs. “Western Governors emphasize the continued need for a central federal agency that has the capability to coordinate disaster management and provide support to states before, during, and after an event,” reads the letter. “To ensure an effective response and strengthen public confidence, many of FEMA’s policies and programs can improve to be more efficient and responsive to state, local and community needs.” Read the correspondence in full for further details.
