Western Governors call for improvement of the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery program
In correspondence with the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance, Western Governors submitted two WGA policy resolutions – 2026-04, Housing is Foundational to the Success of the West, and 2026-05, Disaster Preparedness and Response – for consideration in the subcommittee's hearing regarding local needs in disaster recovery.
“In these resolutions, Western Governors have identified opportunities to reform federal disaster management programs,” read the June 10 letter signed by WGA Executive Director Jack Waldorf. “Specifically, Governors affirm the need to improve the Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery program to ensure the effective use of federal disaster recovery funds.”
