Seven Western Governors and nearly 400 guests convened in South Dakota for our 2018 Annual Meeting. But none of them could have anticipated the “historic” announcement by WGA Executive Director Jim Ogsbury about literally changing the face of one of America’s most iconic landmarks. Ogsbury welcomed meeting attendees, tongue firmly in cheek, by alluding to an upcoming “project” of the National Park Service: an expansion of Mount Rushmore National Memorial.
“The Western Governors’ Association has partnered with the Park Service on this endeavor, and today, for the first time anywhere, we are unveiling an artist’s rendering of the expansion project,” he said.
Watch the video to see what Jim meant. (And yes, it might provoke a smile.) So far, no word from the National Park Service about approving the idea, but we think it’s a fitting tribute to the powerful collaborative spirit of Western Governors.
