Welcome to the first episode of Out West, the official podcast of the Western Governors’ Association, a bipartisan organization representing the governors of the 22 westernmost states and territories.
Our inaugural episode kicks off a series on the Western Governors’ Reimagining the Rural West Initiative, the Chairman’s Initiative of North Dakota Governor and WGA Chair Doug Burgum. Each episode will highlight different aspects of the Initiative, examining challenges and opportunities in rural economic development, infrastructure and quality of life in the West.
Today’s episode finds WGA Policy Advisor Laura Cutlip talking with Gov. Burgum about why he chose to pursue this Initiative. Gov. Burgum is from Arthur, North Dakota, a town of 347 people, so if anyone knows the opportunities and challenges of rural life, it’s him.
Episodes of Out West will be released every three weeks. After we complete the series on Gov. Burgum’s Initiative, which culminates in a report summarizing progress made over the course of the last year, episodes will continue on other WGA policy work.
