Invasive Species data management guidelines released to improve land management reporting

The Western Governors’ Association has released recommendations to standardize the recording and exchange of invasive species occurrence data across the West developed by a group of nearly 30 representatives from state and federal agencies, non-governmental organizations and industry partners.

At their March 2018 WGA Invasive Species Data Management workshop in Denver, Colorado, the cohort agreed to the newly developed parameters, which will help land managers reduce duplicative work between invasive species data managers.

Using the new guidelines, invasive species data managers, aggregators and integrators will be able to standardize communication of invasive species data across their platforms, a key step in understanding the risk that invasive species pose to western landscapes.
