In correspondence with U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Western Governors urged the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) to issue guidance for the expenditure of remaining Broadband, Equity, Access and Development (BEAD) funding already appropriated to states. The March 3 letter, signed by Utah Governor and WGA Chair Spencer Cox and Hawaii Governor and WGA Vice Chair Josh Green, called for the deployment of funds to address shared infrastructure priorities. “We urge NTIA to work with Governors and state broadband offices to develop and issue new guidance regarding BEAD non-deployment funds already appropriated to states as soon as possible to avoid further deployment delays,” reads the letter.
