Hydropower project licensing highlighted in WGA correspondence with Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources

Hydropower project licensing, congressional support for water infrastructure, and the role of basic water data in supporting effective water management were just some of the issues the Western Governors’ Association addressed in correspondence with the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources ahead of its hearing on hydropower. Along with sharing WGA policy resolutions, Energy in the West, Water Quality in the West and Water Resource Management in the West, the letter of Jan 10, signed by WGA Executive Director Jim Ogsbury, specifically advocated for Congress and the Administration to “authorize and implement federally-owned or licensed hydropower projects and programs through efficient permitting processes that: utilize new technology to improve renewable electric generation capacity, and promote economic development, [that] are consistent with the needs of native fisheries and riverine processes.” Read, download the letter
