Hawaiʻi Gov. David Ige described his state's significant work to battle invasive species as not only the "right thing," but work that makes "economic sense" at the final workshop of the Western Governors’ Biosecurity and Invasive Species Initiative, which focused on “Biosecurity and Agriculture." The workshop took place Dec. 9-10 at the Fairmont Orchid on the Island of Hawaii, and was moderated by California Secretary for Natural Resources John Laird.
Montana Gov. Steve Bullock identified invasive species as one of the "great environmental and economic threats to western landscapes" at the Nov. 14 workshop of the Western Governors’ Biosecurity & Invasive Species Initiative. The workshop in Helena, moderated by Leah Elwell of the Invasive Species Action Network, focused on the them of "Early Detection and Rapid Response."
Wyoming Gov. Matt Mead urged attendees to “make a difference” on land management and invasive species policy at the second event in support of the Biosecurity and Invasive Species Initiative on Oct. 11-12, 2018 in Cheyenne. The panels for the initiative were part of the inaugural event of the WGA Working Lands Roundtable, which gathered leaders in land management and invasive species to examine crosscutting policy issues.
Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval hosted and offered opening remarks at the first of four workshops for the Western Governors’ Biosecurity and Invasive Species Initiative. The workshop took place Sept. 17-18, 2018 at the MontBleu Resort in Stateline, Nevada. The Lake Tahoe workshop focused on prevention, control and management of established species, and was moderated by California Secretary for Natural Resources John Laird.
