Read Governor Miche Lujan Grisham's WGA Chair initiative report

Over the past year, the BRAND West initiative convened experts across industry sectors and all levels of government to identify strategies for expanding access to housing in the West. Through an extensive engagement process that included workshops and tours in Utah and Oregon, as well as a webinar, a work session, a public survey, and panels at WGA’s Winter Meeting, the BRAND West report examines four areas where federal, local, state, and territorial governments can provide meaningful solutions that address multiple aspects of the housing crisis: simplifying and streamlining housing development; reducing the costs of homebuilding; supporting families through initiatives that assist renters and homebuyers; and investing in strategic, innovative, and data-informed initiatives across the housing ecosystem.

POLICY

Resolutions

To kick off WGA’s 2025 Annual Meeting in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Western Governors formally approved four bipartisan policy resolutions. The resolutions represent the Governors’ collective policy on mineral production; radioactive materials management; biosecurity and invasive species; and recreation and tourism on public lands. These resolutions are leveraged by the Governors to collectively advocate for western priorities in Washington, D.C. Their formation is a testament to the Governors’ bipartisan ethos.

Energy Superabundance: Unlocking Prosperity in the West

The West is rich in energy — but outdated infrastructure, permitting delays, and rising demand threaten America’s energy edge. Utah Governor Spencer Cox’s Energy Superabundance initiative will unlock American prosperity by expanding production, modernizing transmission, and supporting advanced generation technologies. The West is building the backbone of a more reliable, affordable, and secure grid.

GOVERNORS' MEETING

WGA's 2025 Annual Meeting

New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham hosted the 2025 Annual Meeting of the Western Governors' Association in Santa Fe's historic downtown on June 23 and 24. This year's meeting featured seven Western Governors and five U.S. Cabinet Secretaries in public policy discussions. The Governors also hosted panels on rural health care, outdoor recreation, post-fire flooding, and affordable housing.
