The Western Governors’ Association submitted comments to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and National Marine Fisheries Service about their Candidate Conservation Agreement with Assurances (CCAA) Policy.
Over the past two years, WGA has conducted stakeholder discussions to identify means of incentivizing voluntary conservation through the Western Governors’ Species Conservation and Endangered Species Act Initiative. The comments by WGA are designed to inform the Services’ efforts to better promote and encourage voluntary conservation efforts under the CCAA policy.
The comments submitted on January 22, 2018 noted WGA Policy Resolution 2017-11, Species Conservation and the Endangered Species Act and included the Initiative Year Two Recommendations, which represent bipartisan policy that incentivizes and facilitates voluntary conservation efforts designed to preclude the need to list under the Endangered Species Act.
