Western Governors support the utilization of carbon capture technology through the Enhancing Fossil Fuel Energy Carbon Technology Act, introduced by Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources Chairman Lisa Murkowski and Ranking Member Joe Manchin.
“Commercializing carbon capture and utilization has the dual benefits of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and producing a valuable commodity,” states the letter signed by WGA Chair Hawaii Gov. David Ige and Vice Chair North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum. “Department of Energy research, development, and demonstration programs and other federal incentives are necessary to increase the pace of the commercialization of carbon capture, utilization, and sequestration technology.”
The June 18, 2019 outreach notes that the Act aligns with WGA Policy Resolution 2018-07, Enhanced Oil Recovery, and emphasized the Governors’ appreciation for being a consulted party in the commercialization of carbon capture technology and infrastructure.
