Western Governors, in outreach to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), back policies enabling utilities to undertake vegetation management actions on and adjacent to federal transmission rights-of-way.
The letter to Acting BLM Director William Perry Pendley, notes that these management actions are similar to those considered in the BLM’s Draft Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement for Fuel Breaks in the Great Basin.
"Integrating vegetation management into large-scale fuels management planning offers many benefits," asserts the Aug. 6, 2019 letter signed by WGA Chair and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum and Vice Chair and Oregon Gov. Kate Brown.
