Governors support House legislation to develop state programs for addressing social determinants of health

Western Governors voiced their support for the Social Determinants Accelerator Act of 2021 in outreach to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. The correspondence of Aug. 18, 2021, signed by WGA Chair Idaho Gov. Brad Little and Vice Chair Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, specifically referenced the Act’s planned allocation of $25 million to establish a Social Determinants Accelerator Interagency Council and a grant program. “These plans would facilitate the implementation of locally designed, cross-sector interventions and strategies and provide important data on the cost-effectiveness and outcomes of these innovative approaches," the Governors’ asserted. The legislation, which is in line with WGA Policy Resolution, Physical and Behavioral Health Care in Western States, “would assist states in developing plans to target social determinants that negatively affect health outcomes for western populations,” the letter continued.
