Western Governors identified several policy issues for members of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources to take into account as they consider the Water Supply Infrastructure and Drought Resilience Act of 2018.

The Governors’ letter of June 5, 2018 highlighted issues in the proposed bill that have previously been addressed by Western Governors in WGA policy resolutions, including water supply infrastructure and management.

“Water is a precious resource everywhere, but especially in the arid West, where many communities anticipate challenges in meeting future water demands,” stated the letter signed by WGA Chair South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard and WGA Vice Chair Hawaii Gov. David Ige. “As the primary authority for the recognition and management of water rights, states have reserved sovereign authority to manage and allocate water resources located within their boundaries.”
