Western Governors laud Stop the Spread of Invasive Mussels Act’s empowerment of federal agencies to inspect watercraft

Western Governors shared their support of the Stop the Spread of Invasive Mussels Act of 2021 in Sept. 28 outreach to Representatives John Garamendi and Mark Amodei, who introduced the legislation. "This bipartisan legislation would enable state and federal agencies to more effectively combat the spread of aquatic nuisance species (ANS) in western waters," asserted the letter signed by WGA Chair, Idaho Gov. Brad Little, and Vice Chair, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis. The outreach additionally lauded the legislation’s empowerment of federal agencies to inspect and decontaminate watercraft upon their departure from infested waterbodies under federal jurisdiction, including major headwaters and the Columbia River basin – the last major uninfested water system in the continental U.S. “It is of paramount importance to prevent the spread of these species into uninfested waterways,” the Governors’ said.  Read, download the letter.
