CHAT Pub CoverThe Western Governors’ Crucial Habitat Assessment Tool (CHAT) is a cooperative effort of 16 Western states to provide the public and industry a high-level overview of “crucial habitat” across the West.

CHAT is a non-regulatory tool that provides a “30,000-foot view” of habitat for pre-planning that can be used for projects as varied as “macro-siting” energy corridors to comparing fish and wildlife habitat across the West.

Purchase of Development Rights: Conserving Lands, Preserving Western Livelihoods

pdr rptA unique partnership of cattlemen, conservationists and Western Governors developed this 2002 report supporting the creation and use of publicly funded Purchase of Development Rights (PDR).

The idea behind the PDR is to protect rapidly disappearing farm and ranch land and to conserve agricultural lands and wildlife habitat in the West. Authored jointly by the Western Governors’ Association, the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, and the Trust for Public Land.
