Workforce Development Initiative workshops coming to Colorado, Oklahoma and Washington

South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard hosted the first in a series of workshops designed to bridge the gap between prospective workers and employers in the West on Aug. 3-4 in Sioux Falls, S.D. The goal of the Western Governors’ Workforce Development Initiative is to create enhanced career opportunities for students, graduates and displaced workers to help build a more vibrant economy.  The Initiative will pursue this goal in part through upcoming workshops hosted by Western Governors in the following cities:

• Denver: September 18-19, 2017: Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper will deliver opening remarks at the workshop focused on effective  partnerships with industry for workforce development. Panels will cover the role of states in  strengthening industry leadership for talent, industry-led workforce development initiatives, a case study,  aligning education with competencies and looking around the curve. • Oklahoma City: Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin, Oct. 16-17, 2017

• Seattle: Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, Nov. 1-2, 2017
