Western Governors released the National Forest and Rangeland Management Initiative Special Report at the 2017 Annual Meeting in Whitefish, Montana. Launched in 2016 by then-Chairman Gov. Steve Bullock, the Initiative highlights mechanisms to bring states, federal land managers, private landowners and other stakeholders together to discuss issues and opportunities in forest and rangeland management.
Experts and stakeholders from throughout the West share insights in the report on land management practices and identify improvements that will enable western states to develop healthy, resilient landscapes and communities.
The report includes administrative recommendations designed to be quickly actionable by federal and state land managers, as well as legislative recommendations to address chronic capacity restraints and develop additional authorities that build on past progress.
