WGA emphasizes states’ role in implementing Army Corps of Engineers Civil Works Program before Senate hearing

The Western Governors’ Association emphasized the “vital” role of states in in the implementation of several Army Corps of Engineers programs in advance of the May 8, 2019 Oversight Hearing on the Corps’ Civil Works Program.

“Western Governors have responsibly exercised their authority for comprehensive water management and protection within their states and have worked cooperatively with the Corps and other federal agencies in connection with that responsibility,” asserts the letter from WGA Executive Director Jim Ogsbury to Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works Chairman John Barrasso and Ranking Member Thomas R. Carper.

The outreach includes: WGA Policy Resolution 2017-01, Building a Stronger State-Federal Relationship; WGA Policy Resolution 2018-08, Water Resource Management in the West; WGA Policy Resolution 2018-12, Water Quality in the West, as well as previous outreach regarding the federal Clean Water Act.
