WGA Chair and South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard will host the Western Governors in public roundtables on critical regional issues such as the opioid epidemic and Philip Anschutz will deliver a keynote.
Western Governors’ Association Chair and South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard will host his colleagues, administration officials and special guests at the 2018 WGA Annual Meeting June 25-27 in Rapid City.
Online registration is closed. Onsite registration will be available at the Holiday Inn Rushmore Plaza, Dakota Ballroom Foyer on Sunday, June 24 (2-5 p.m.), Monday, June 25 (8 a.m.-5 p.m.) and Wednesday, June 27 (7:30-11:30 a.m.).
Governors Doug Burgum (North Dakota), Matt Mead (Wyoming), John Hickenlooper (Colorado), Butch Otter (Idaho) Gary Herbert (Utah) and Steve Bullock (Montana) will join Gov. Daugaard in public conversations on critical issues facing the West such as the environmental challenges of wildfire and the opioid epidemic.
Secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta and Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson will deliver remarks on Day 1 (June 25). Iconic Mount Rushmore will serve as the backdrop for a Day 2 (June 26) speech by Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke. Philip Anschutz, chairman of The Anschutz Corporation and author of two books on the American West, will follow with the keynote “Creating the American West.”
Gov. Daugaard also will present a first-year report on his Chairman’s Initiative, the Western Governors’ Workforce Development Initiative, and the meeting will conclude with a public conversation among the First Spouses.
