WGA calls for improved agency coordination to address cybersecurity threats to critical water infrastructure in the nation’s energy sector

In correspondence with the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Subcommittee on Water and Power, the Western Governors’ Association (WGA) submitted policy recommendations to address cybersecurity threats for critical water infrastructure in the nation's energy sector. In particular, the letter of April 10, 2024, signed by WGA Executive Director Jack Waldorf, called for improved agency coordination. “Centralized authority, points of contact, and formalized communication pathways are necessary to address increasingly complex threats,” the letter read. “The federal government must also improve agency coordination to use often-constrained security resources more efficiently and harmonize disparate regulations that put an unnecessary burden on state governments.” Read the full correspondence for additional details.
